Gastrointestinal motility agents are medications designed to enhance or normalize the movement of the digestive tract by stimulating smooth muscle contraction, coordinating peristalsis, or modulating enteric neurotransmitters. These agents include prokinetics such as metoclopramide, domperidone, mosapride, and prucalopride, which act on dopamine, serotonin, or cholinergic pathways to accelerate gastric emptying and intestinal transit. They are commonly used for gastroparesis, functional dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux, chronic constipation, and postoperative ileus.
