Description

Amberlyst® 15 is a strongly acidic, macroreticular cation exchange resin supplied in the dry, hydrogen form. This robust, heterogeneous catalyst is prized for its high thermal stability and excellent performance in both aqueous and organic media, offering a reusable and easily separable alternative to traditional liquid acids. It is a critical component for chemical engineers and process chemists across the pharmaceutical, fine chemical, and petrochemical industries, enabling key acid-catalyzed transformations with simplified downstream processing.

Application

  • Esterification and Transesterification Reactions: Widely used in the production of biodiesel, plasticizers, and flavor/fragrance esters.
  • Hydration and Dehydration Reactions: Catalyzes the hydration of olefins to alcohols and the dehydration of alcohols to ethers or alkenes.
  • Alkylation and Acylation: Facilitates Friedel-Crafts type alkylation and acylation reactions in fine chemical synthesis.
  • Hydrolysis: Effective for the hydrolysis of acetals, esters, and nitriles under mild conditions.
  • Condensation Reactions: Used in aldol, Knoevenagel, and similar C-C bond forming condensations.
  • Protection/Deprotection in Peptide Synthesis: Employed for the removal of acid-labile protecting groups.
  • Continuous Flow Chemistry: Ideal for packing fixed-bed reactors for continuous manufacturing processes.
  • Water Treatment & Purification: Serves as a strong acid cation exchanger for demineralization and metal ion removal.

Quality Control

Our Amberlyst® 15 is manufactured under strict quality systems to ensure batch-to-batch consistency and performance reliability. Each lot is tested against key physical and chemical parameters, including exchange capacity, moisture content, particle size distribution, and thermal stability. A Certificate of Analysis (COA) documenting these results is provided with every shipment to guarantee compliance with your process requirements.

Storage

Preserve in a tightly closed container, protected from light. This product is hygroscopic (moisture-sensitive) and should be stored in a cool, dry place at room temperature (15-25°C). Keep the container tightly sealed when not in use to prevent moisture uptake, which can affect catalytic activity. Store away from strong bases and oxidizing agents.
