Description
Acetylene CAS NO 74-86-2 is a fundamental hydrocarbon gas and the simplest alkyne, widely recognized for its high-temperature flame in oxy-acetylene welding and cutting. Its triple carbon-carbon bond makes it a crucial building block in industrial organic synthesis, serving as a precursor for a vast array of chemicals and materials. This product is essential for industries including metal fabrication, chemical manufacturing, and specialty gas production.
Application
- Metal Fabrication: Primary fuel gas for oxy-acetylene welding, cutting, brazing, and soldering due to its high flame temperature.
- Chemical Synthesis: Key starting material for the production of vinyl chloride (for PVC), acetaldehyde, acetic acid, and various acetylene-based chemicals.
- Specialty Gas Mixtures: Component in calibration gas mixtures and specialty atmospheres for analytical and research applications.
- Carbon Nanomaterial Production: Used as a carbon source in the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis of carbon nanotubes and other nanomaterials.
- Lighting: Historically used in portable lamps (carbide lamps) for mining and caving; still finds niche applications.
- Glass Industry: Used in the manufacturing and processing of glass products.

Quality Control
Our acetylene is produced and handled under stringent quality protocols to ensure purity and safety for industrial applications. We adhere to relevant industry standards and specifications for dissolved acetylene. A detailed Certificate of Analysis (COA) is provided with each shipment, confirming critical parameters such as purity and impurity levels.
Storage
Acetylene is a highly flammable and unstable gas under pressure. It must be stored and handled in accordance with strict safety regulations. Store dissolved acetylene cylinders upright in a cool, well-ventilated, fire-resistant area, away from heat, sparks, open flames, and oxidizing agents. Cylinder temperature must not exceed 40°C (104°F). Protect from physical damage. Keep valve caps on when not in use. Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for complete handling and storage instructions.
