Deflocculants

Deflocculants are dispersing agents designed to prevent particle aggregation and maintain stable suspensions in aqueous or non-aqueous systems. They function by imparting electrostatic repulsion or steric hindrance between particles, thereby reducing viscosity, improving flowability, and enhancing dispersion uniformity. Deflocculants are widely used in ceramics manufacturing, mineral processing, paints and coatings, drilling fluids, wastewater treatment, and construction materials such as cement and concrete. Common types include polycarboxylate dispersants, lignosulfonates, phosphates, silicates, and polymeric surfactants. Their performance depends on molecular structure, charge density, pH compatibility, and interaction with solid surfaces.
