Description

Creosote is a complex mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons, phenols, and heterocyclic oxygen compounds, primarily derived from the high-temperature distillation of coal tar. This versatile material is valued for its potent preservative and water-repellent properties, making it a critical component in industrial wood treatment and protection. It serves essential roles in the railroad, utility, and marine construction industries, where long-term durability of timber against biological decay and environmental stress is paramount.

Application

  • Railroad Tie Preservation: Primary use as a wood preservative for railway sleepers and switch ties to prevent rot, fungal decay, and insect infestation.
  • Utility Pole Treatment: Impregnation of wooden utility and transmission poles to extend service life in outdoor environments.
  • Marine and Heavy Timber Construction: Protection of docks, pilings, and bulkheads from marine borers and harsh aquatic conditions.
  • Industrial Biocide: Used as an active ingredient in formulations for controlling microbial growth in certain industrial systems.
  • Feedstock for Chemical Refining: Serves as a source for the separation and extraction of specific aromatic compounds like cresols and xylenols.
  • Fuel Oil Blending: Historically used as a fuel oil component or burner fuel due to its high calorific value.

Quality Control

Our Creosote is manufactured and tested to meet stringent industry specifications, including relevant AWPA (American Wood Protection Association) standards for wood preservatives. Quality is assured through comprehensive batch analysis covering key parameters such as distillation range, specific gravity, and water content. Certificates of Analysis (COA) documenting compliance with agreed specifications are provided with every shipment.

Storage

Preserve in a tightly closed container, protected from light. Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from strong acids, oxidizing agents, and incompatible organic solvents. Keep container tightly sealed when not in use to minimize evaporation and prevent absorption of moisture. Recommended storage temperature is between 15°C and 25°C.
