Description

Creosote is a complex mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons, phenols, and heterocyclic compounds derived from the high-temperature distillation of coal tar or wood. This versatile material serves as a highly effective wood preservative and industrial biocide, protecting timber from fungal decay and insect damage. It is essential for industries involved in railway ties, utility poles, marine pilings, and heavy-duty outdoor construction, where long-term durability is critical.

Application

  • Wood Preservation: Primary industrial use for pressure-treating railway sleepers, utility poles, crossarms, and marine timbers.
  • Industrial Biocide: Used as a fungicide and insecticide in heavy-duty outdoor applications and for protecting other organic materials.
  • Fuel and Energy: Can be utilized as a fuel oil extender or a source for chemical feedstock in specialized refining processes.
  • Construction & Infrastructure: For the protection of fencing, bridge components, and other structural wood exposed to harsh environments.
  • Historical Restoration: Used in the maintenance and restoration of historic timber structures where traditional treatments are specified.
  • Pitch Control Agent: In the pulp and paper industry to control pitch deposits during the papermaking process.

Quality Control

Our creosote is manufactured and tested to meet stringent industry specifications, including those outlined by the American Wood Protection Association (AWPA). Each batch is analyzed for key parameters such as distillation range, specific gravity, and water content to ensure consistent performance as a wood preservative. Certificates of Analysis (COA) documenting compliance with relevant standards are available upon request.

Storage

Preserve in a tightly closed container, protected from light. Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat sources, open flames, and incompatible materials such as strong acids and oxidizing agents. The product is light-sensitive (store away from light). Keep containers tightly sealed when not in use to minimize evaporation and prevent water ingress.
