Amine Salt Type
Amine salt cationic surfactants are produced by protonating primary, secondary, or tertiary fatty amines with inorganic or organic acids to form surface-active ammonium salts. These surfactants exhibit strong adsorption onto negatively charged surfaces such as hair, fibers, minerals, and metal oxides, giving them excellent conditioning, antistatic, emulsifying, and corrosion-inhibiting properties. They are widely used in hair conditioners, fabric softeners, asphalt emulsifiers, flotation reagents, disinfectants, and metal-treatment chemicals. Their pH-dependent charge behavior provides formulation flexibility in acidic to mildly alkaline systems. Although less stable than quaternary ammonium compounds, amine salt surfactants offer better biodegradability and are often chosen for applications requiring mild cationic performance with reduced environmental impact.
